The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) and the Forum are pleased to be holding a zoom conference from 9 am ET to 4:30 pm ET on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, on legal issues raised by Bill C-10, legislation passed by the House of Commons this past Spring to amend Canada’s 1991 Broadcasting Act. (The legislation would only enter into force following a review by the Senate, which is not yet scheduled.)
Following keynote addresses by former CRTC Chairperson Konrad von Finckenstein and Brad Danks, CEO of OUTtv, eight of Canada’s leading legal practitioners will set out and discuss legal questions raised by C-10, focusing in particular on the new broadcasting policy being proposed by the House of Commons and on the new powers proposed for the CRTC (which regulates broadcasting and telecommunications in Canada).
The panel moderators and panelists (in alphabetical order) are: Bram Abramson, Douglas Barrett, Tim Denton, Jeffrey Dvorkin, Ken Engelhart, Peter Grant, Ben Klass, Phil Palmer Monica Song and Jay Thomson. The panel sessions will include time for questions from those who have registered for the conference.
Registration for the conference is free, but must be completed by 2 November 2021.
