Optional, mandatory or missing:  the CRTC’s procedural rules in 2026

In January 2026 the CRTC announced its plan to review its 2010 Rules of Practice and Procedure.  These regulations describe steps that the CRTC wants applicants, complainants and other parties to follow before, during and sometimes after its public proceedings conclude.

The Forum for Research and Policy in Communications (FRPC) is holding an online symposium on the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 10:30 am ET to 4:30 pm ET.

Four panels will discuss changes since 2010 to the law regarding administrative rules, ambiguities in the current Rules as well as gaps in the current Rules’ procedures and practices.

Keynote speaker:  CRTC  Commissioner Bram Abramson

Limited spaces are available through Eventbrite until end of day 16 June 2026 – captioning will be provided but not translation; the event will not be recorded for later broadcast. Participants will receive a set of the current Rules, lightly annotated by FRPC.
